1490-1509 Henry VIII, Columbus Discovers America
This twenty year period covers the reign of Henry VII who
died in 1509 and was succeeded by his son Henry VIII. This period saw constant
warfare -- mostly in Italy .
When choosing between the most significant event of this period we chose the accession of Henry VIII over the discovery ofAmerica
by Columbus because his influence on our times
was immediate whereas it would take another hundred years before the New World impacted our lives.

the League of Cambrai and the 1509–1513 Ottoman Civil War.
In 1492 Columbus discovered America, in 1499 Amerigo Vespucci reached the mouth of the Amazon, in 1500 the Portuguese established the trade route to India, in 1501 the Spanish introduced Negro slavery to the West Indies, and in 1507 Martin Waldseemuller proposed calling the New World 'America'.
